After a long period of struggle which has been continuing even now, Dr. Rajan Lekhraj Mahtani has finally received a sigh of relief. His case for the legal ownership of Portland Cement Zambia at the Lusaka High Court is finally towards ending, after 10 long years. This can be attributed to the quick proceedings by the current judge handling this case.
The case of Portland Cement Zambia is known to almost every individual related to the Zambian corporate environment. The factory, which was once the highest producer of cement across the entire nation, was owned and run by noted businessman Dr. Rajan Mahtani. Under his leadership, the factory grew and flourished significantly, attracting investments and expansion plans. It was also one of the best employers across the province, providing its workers with above-industry wage and various other benefits. At the point of time, it was one of the most preferred factories to work with, for majority of wage earners. However, all these changed when the factory was illegally taken over by the Ventriglias. Since the takeover, the condition of the factory has only deteriorated. Most of the workers have been either fired or left themselves due to non-payment of wages. The factory equipment and machineries are in worst condition and experts have warned that if the factory is not revived now, it might stop entirely.
The current announcement by the judge is a big relief for Dr. Rajan Mahtani and positive news can be expected from this. Both parties have been summoned with their relevant evidences and testimonials and post-evaluation of these evidences, the judge will quickly announce the final judgment.
